Overview
In this session, participants will examine the evolving landscape of intravenous iron therapy, with a focus on understanding hypersensitivity reactions, differentiating true anaphylaxis from infusion-related and complement-mediated reactions, and applying evidence-based management strategies. The program emphasizes product-specific characteristics, risk mitigation, and practical decision-making to enhance clinician confidence, optimize patient safety, and improve anemia management outcomes across diverse care settings.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

Mark Attilio is a board-certified oncology pharmacist specializing in classical hematologic disorders. Mark started as a specialist for Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he established and evolved pharmacy support for classical hematology. After relocating in 2021, he provided local hematology oncology care for Pennsylvania Hospital, while supporting benign hematology for the UPHS health system, and now serves both inpatient and outpatient as the classical hematology pharmacy specialist for the Jefferson Health system.
As a practice model, Mark Attilio emphasizes healthcare utilization on an institutional setting and beyond, focusing on education and protocol development to optimize patient treatment through the healthcare continuum.
