Classical Hematology Venous Thromboembolism, Thalassemia, and Hemochromatosis

Overview
This program provides a focused review of venous thromboembolism, thalassemia, and hemochromatosis. Participants will examine evidence-based approaches to thrombophilia testing and anticoagulation, along with diagnostic and treatment strategies for inherited anemias and iron overload. Emphasis is placed on applying guidelines, interpreting key labs, and delivering individualized, patient-centered care.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

- Describe hypercoagulable evaluation and treatment options for venous thromboembolism.
- Discuss the pathophysiology of thalassemia, diagnostic tools, and treatment options.

Dr. Conde is an oncology nurse practitioner and researcher in the Department of Oncology at Straub Cancer Center. In 2009, he helped launch the first hospital-based adult cancer survivorship program in Hawaii. As a researcher, his main area of focus is quality of life among cancer survivors, particularly in ethnic minority populations. He has successfully received federal and private grants for his studies and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Conde’s professional memberships include the Oncology Nursing Society and Sigma Theta Tau. In 2012, he was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Conde received his BSN, MSN, and PhD in nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles.
