Overview

This activity provides an update on contemporary prostate cancer screening, staging, risk stratification, and treatment. Participants will review shared decision-making around PSA-based screening; the roles of multiparametric MRI and PSMA PET imaging; and emerging AI-based digital pathology tools to refine prognosis and personalize treatment decisions in localized disease. The program also addresses molecular testing and evolving treatment strategies for advanced prostate cancer, including androgen receptor signaling inhibitors, PARP inhibitors, metastasis-directed radiation therapy, and PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

  1. Explain prostate cancer screening and new imaging technologies for staging (e.g., PET scans) 
  2. Discuss AI-based pathology prediction tools 
  3. Describe molecular testing and its role in guiding treatment of advanced prostate cancer

Sundhar Ramalingam, MD mainly treats patients with genitourinary cancers, including prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular, and penile cancer.  His goal is to be attentive and devoted to his patients who are often dealing with complicated health problems. Dr. Ramalingam tries to personalize his care because every patient is different. He believes the future is promising because new treatments are being discovered every day.

Dr. Sundhar Ramalingam is involved in clinical trials done through Duke University.  Clinical trials are designed to provide patients with access to the newest possible treatments. He is also part of our multi-disciplinary cancer team, including urologic oncologists, geneticists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and other specialists. Dr. Ramalingam grew up in Cary and did all of his medical training in the Research Triangle Park area. He feels honored to practice in the same community I have lived in for more than twenty-five years.
