Overview
This activity explores the principles and practice of integrative oncology, emphasizing a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach that combines evidence-based integrative therapies with conventional cancer care to optimize symptom control, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer continuum.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

Dr. Heather Jackson serves as the administrative director of advanced practice for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In her clinical practice, she cares for patients in the Supportive Oncology and Palliative Care clinic. She is also an Associate Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing as well as the Vanderbilt School of Medicine. As a nursing scientist, Dr. Jackson has advanced the use of acupuncture for the treatment of pain and opioid dependence and published on qualitive improvement initiatives within advanced practice teams across the healthcare enterprise.

Marcia Berlin, RDN, LD, CDCES, is an Integrative Oncology Dietitian and Wellness Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 15 years’ experience promoting healthy lifestyles. She received her education, a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, from Georgia State University. Marcia is well-versed in working with diverse populations. As well as experienced in educating patients about diabetes, nutrition, and general wellness using a patient-centered approach. Her certifications include, Registered and Licensed Dietitian- Tennessee & Georgia, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, and Certified BeMoved Dance Fitness Instructor.

Mary Darden has been a nurse practitioner for 28 years and a nurse for 34. She has worked in the Oncology setting for about 15 of those years. The remainder of that time, she worked in rural and urban settings, providing primary care to a wide population of patients from different cultures and socioeconomic groups. Mary has always had an interest in integrative medicine and biofield therapies such as healing touch and Reiki.
She attended an NIH grant funded training program in 2019 at the University of Michigan called the Integrative Oncology Scholars program. It was a unique program that set out to train 100 Oncology providers from various disciplines in Integrative Oncology. Once completed, she returned to Tennessee Oncology and began developing a program for the large community-based cancer program. This program has been serving patients since 2021 and is growing. In her free time, she loves being outdoors! She loves to hike, swim, and travel to interesting places. She enjoys photography and painting. Mary has 2 grown sons, 3 grandsons, and 2 pugs, MeiMei and Sake.
